PORCHnc
The North Carolina Master’s Crew Team is sponsering the PORCHnc effort. PORCHnc (People Offering Relief for Chapel Hill and Carrboro Homes), www.porchnc.org is an all-volunteer, grass-roots, non-profit organization whose mission is to collect food for the hungry in our community. Through donations in the form of canned goods and non perishables, PORCHnc supports several local food pantries as well as schools in our district with supplemental snacks for students. This community-wide hunger relief effort has over 2000 individuals throughout Chapel Hill and Carrboro participating in PORCH’s monthly food drives.
The Maters Crew team has partnered with this charity as a way to help serve our community. PORCHnc was choosen because it is a local and because without proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle that includes sports like rowing is out of the question.
In an effort to make donating as easy as possible for our team members, a large bin with PROCHnc labels has been placed near the Master’s bench. Members may bring items at any time and they will be collected once a month. An email with the official collection date and information on most needed items will be sent out once a month just prior to the collection date. Race for the Cure
Breast cancer research and support for the survivors and victims of breast cancer is a top priority for the Carolina Masters. Every June since 1998, the Carolina Masters participate in the Raleigh Race for the Cure.
Adopt-A-Highway
Carolina Masters participates in North Carolina’s Adopt-A-Highway Program. Members clean up our section of the roadway at least four times a year (botanical note: this is kudzu, an excellent ground cover, and tree cover and sign cover).
Franklin Street Planters
To help keep downtown Chapel Hill beautiful all year long, Carolina Masters has adopted a planter on Franklin Street.
